Animal Studies

The Fox-

This collection of pieces explores the elegant figure of the fox. I wanted to capture the sleek coat with long threads of light shining down the fur.

The fox is often represented as the cunning figure, plotting and one step ahead. The fox that came from my experimenting felt more at odds with the elements, searching for contentment in not so favorable situations.

The Hyena-

A scavenger picking up the scraps others left off from, living on the fringe and in solitude.  These are a few views of the hyena.

When I started the journey through my hyena studies, I did have these views on my mind. I found through image and video research that hyenas have a very large jaw. Really strong and powerful. This jaw also is somewhat disproportionate to the rest of the hyena head and funny enough, that gives the hyena that hyserical look. Hyenas are beautiful in the way they slink through the African wild grasses, often figting off wild dogs and lions for their sustainability.

The Wolf-

I started this animal study with a strong wolf positioned on it's belly, head turned up. As the series moved on, the stance of the wolf fluctuated and became on defense and strong, and then strong and triumphant with it's kill. At the end the wolf becomes the killed. It's a study on humility through the body of wolf.

The snake-

Another animal which hides characteristics inside that aren't seen on te surface. A reptile that kills when things get close to it. It began to feel melancholic and almost romantic in a way so the rose emphasizes that quality.

The tiger-

Majestic and regal. Easy to become lost in its stipes, the tiger.  Big, beautiful, but deadly and observed with caution, the tiger.  A spectacle but to watch from a distance unless one is prepared, the tiger.
